There's no denying the fact scarcity works... the human brain simply values ‘limited availability’ more... whether it's real or not.
The problem is: Internet Marketers are prone to exageration, (to put it nicely!)
So these days every offer is on the clock... there's only 5 left (of digital products?) ... and the price is going to quadruple if you blink... Most of it is so tacky it's embarrassing!
But for all that, Scarcity is a primal trigger that works, and there are ways to use it ethically.
- Don't Lie to Your Customer. "Selling fast" beats fake "Only 3 left!"
- Mean What You Say. Don't threaten a price rise unless you mean it.
- Use it to Highlight True Demand rather than manufacture pressure.
- Have a Genuine Reason to claim scarcity, or don't do it. Simple!
Scarcity taps into fear of missing out (FOMO) which is an incredibly powerful emotion. So realistically, the genuine, low pressure demo of demand, will usually have a bigger impact than over-hyped, clearly faked claims.
And the ultimate sweet spot... demonstrate True Demand with a real-time Social Proof app... (32 people viewing this page, Joe Bloggs from UK just purchased, etc... )
